Canberra Accommodation

Canberra Shopping

Like all Australian cities, Canberra has every retail experience on offer, from exquisite boutiques to department stores, shopping malls and street markets. Some newly refurbished shopping centres are Southlands Shopping Centre, Mawson, Hobart Place and Jamison Shopping Centre.

The ACT is also alive with art and craft markets, as well as fresh produce farmers' markets, so you will want for nothing. Visit the award-winning Old Bus Depot (www.obdm.com.au) market at Kingston on the Lake's foreshore where the old building is transformed into a bustling jumble of fabulous handcrafts, artwork and fresh produce. The market happens every Sunday from 10am-4pm and also on Saturdays during December.

At Tuggeranong (www.tca.asn.au) a showcase of superb art and craftsmanship is on display (and for sale) at the old homestead, which houses galleries, theatres, artspaces, workshops and all kinds of facilities for the arts-oriented. Gorman House and Strathnairn Homestead are also historic houses offering local art for sale. Visit www.artlook.com.au for a full list of artspaces and galleries around Canberra.

For fresh produce you can't go past the Capital Region Farmers Market at Exhibition Park, Flemington Rd, Mitchell. This market happens on Saturday mornings from 8-11, tel: 0400 852 227.
