Canberra Weather and Climate

Canberra is situated in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), encircled by the state of New South Wales in the south-eastern part of Australia. Its geographic coordinates are 35°S and 149°E.

Canberra occupies the same time zone as Sydney and Melbourne: that is, GMT +10. During summer, from the last weekend in October to the (usually) last weekend in March, the ACT has daylight saving, when the clocks go forward one hour to GMT + 11.

The climate of Canberra is relatively dry, with warm to hot summers (December-February) and cool to cold winters (June-August). Canberra was deliberately located to shield it from the worst winter weather and, as a result it is in a rain shadow, with an average of just 108 rain days per year. The wettest month of the year is October, and the driest is June.
